By the way, the term Internet of Things is 16 years old, but the original idea of ​​connected devices dates back to at least the 70s. Back then, the idea was often called “widespread computing” or “embedded Internet”. However, the original term “Internet of Things” was coined by Kevin Ashton in 1999 during his work at Procter & Gamble. Ashton, who has been working to reform the supply chain, wanted to divert senior management’s attention to a new exciting technology called RFID. Because the Internet was the newest trend in 1999 and because of this it was somehow meaningful, he called his offer the “Internet of Things”.

Although Kevin had attracted the interest of some P&G executives, the term Internet of Things did not receive widespread attention for the next 10 years.
